Last week came the most surprising-unsurprising announcement that Barry Manilow had married his Garry Kief, his longtime manager and partner, last year in a secret ceremony and that former Three’s Company star Suzanne Somers had stood up as their witness. While it was one of the entertainment industry’s worst-kept secrets that 71-year-old Manilow is gay, the legendary pop singer has never publicly come out so the story was initially greeted with some skepticism. Somers has officially confirmed news of the happy occasion with an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live when she answered a question from a caller on whether Manilow had been a Bridezilla.
Somers chuckles then reveals that the two men are indeed married and very happy. Host Andy Cohen pressed her for more information.
“I think it’s freeing,” she shared. “He’s extremely, extremely private, and I think it was very difficult, and it’s very difficult for me to talk about because I want to do it with complete respect and love. He’s an awesome person. They’re both awesome people, and they’re my dearest friends.”
