Moms open up to their adult gay sons about when they first “knew” in heartwarming video

There’s something truly special about the bond shared between a mother and her gay son. In his latest video, L.A.-based pychotherapist Matthew Dempsey gathered a group of moms and their adult gay sons to talk about their unique relationships.

“Gay guys and their moms often have a special bond and a uniquely close relationship,” Dempsey explains. “Our moms gave us license to set down the pretense of how a “real boy” was supposed to be and allowed us to just be ourselves.”

In the emotional video, the moms discuss openly with their sons about when they first realized their little boys were gay, their fears for them growing up, challenges, rewarding moments, and more.

Dempsey explains: “In this video, my friends and I sit down with our mothers, whom we all flew in for a special weekend celebrating the fierce love they’ve shown us, to ask them what it was like raising gay sons and how they think things turned out.”
