Trial Begins For Man Accused Of Raping Teen He Lured Off The Internet

The trail began this week for a U.K. man accused of pinning down and raping a student he met online earlier this year.

24-year-old Ibrar Ahmed first connected with the 18-year-old victim, whose name has not been released, on Grindr back in February. According to the victim, he was only looking for friends at the time. The two exchanged messages for a while before Ahmed invited him over to his place in Middlesbrough. Shortly after he got there, he claims Ahmed started coming onto him.

“I told him I didn’t want to have sex,” the victim said during a police interview, which was played before the Teesside Crown Court this week. “I told him I didn’t want to do that. He told me that wasn’t going to happen. I’m not that type of person. I never want to give someone the wrong idea.”

Ahmed respected his wishes and backed off. Until the next day, when the victim went over to visit him again.

“He asked if we could have sex,” he told police. “I said ‘no.’ I told him I didn’t want to have sex.”

This time, Ahmed didn’t listen.

“He started to remove my clothes,” the victim alleged. “Initially, I thought he was just joking. Then he got more forceful. He was a lot stronger than me. I was trying to push him away. He held my hands over my head so I couldn’t do anything.”

The victim told police that Ahmed overpowered him, tearing off his clothing before proceeding to have sex with him against his will.

“He kept saying, ‘Are you OK? Is this OK?’” the victim said. “I kept telling him, ‘No. I don’t want to do this. This isn’t OK. You need to stop.”

“He was saying, ‘This is OK. This is OK.’ It was as if he couldn’t hear me.”

Afterwards, the victim asked to leave but Ahmed allegedly refused to unlock the bedroom door, demanding the teenager “must stay with me.”

The victim begged and eventually Ahmed let him go. A few days later, he sent him a text message apologizing for what happened.

“It didn’t feel real,” the victim explained. “I didn’t understand what happened. It was overwhelming.”

The victim decided to contact police and Ahmed was arrested a few days later. He denied raping the teenager, claiming the sex has been consensual, though he did admit that he “sometimes had problems controlling himself.”

The trail continues.
